Javier

By Matthew Kaplan

Meet Javier, a sixth grade student at KIPP Durham. With a smile that lights up any room, Javier is well-liked by his classmates. To his Pride, Javier is a good classmate, and he is an even better brother to his older and younger siblings. Even though Javier loves to goof around, he knows the importance of hard work. Last year, Javier and his family moved from Honduras to North Carolina, leaving behind a country they called home. When Javier enrolled at KIPP, he did not know any English. But through diligence and dedication, Javier has made incredible strides, working hard and challenging himself every day. I am confident that, thanks to the help of KIPP, Javier will achieve every goal that he sets for himself. One day, Javier will be the kind of leader our world needs.

I want to thank Javier and his family for so graciously welcoming me into their home. It has been a pleasure to get to know him over the past semester. Javier is a truly special boy, and I am certain that he has a bright future ahead of him. I am eager to see how he will shine.
